New arrival at #IMPACT Zanzibar #Safer Motherhood

This is Kazija Haji Makame and her 6 week old beautiful daughter.

There is a huge disparity between provision of maternity care in rural and urban areas in Zanzibar, resulting in just 40% of births taking place in hospitals or health centres. The UN Mortality Estimation Group states that there are 460 maternal deaths in every 100,000 live births. Of every 1,000 children born, 79 will not live until their 5th birthday.

This is why IMPACT Zanzibar is helping mothers like Kazija to have a safe pregnancy with support before, during and after delivery through their Maternal and Early Childhood Programme.

In Kazija’s words:
“I was in good hands during pregnancy and delivery. I thank mama Habiba (Community Based Worker) for educating me on risk factors during pregnancy and how she agreed to escort me to the delivery centre as it was my first time to have a hospital delivery’

If you want to help others like Kazija to have a safe pregnancy and delivery, just text CURE23 £5 (or alternative amount) to 70070.
