Moonset

As I walked back down the hill this morning, I had a magnificent view of the moon coming out from under the cloud and setting behind the foothills of the Southern Alps, the backdrop to Christchurch. I have cut out all the lights of the city, to give the shot a more natural look. However, you can see that the air is not particularly clear between the moon and my viewpoint. As the moon sinks, the atmospheric gunk becomes more pronounced. If you have seen some of those magnificent moon shots from cabbagetree you will know that away from the city, the air is much clearer.
