Alternative Après-ski

Daughter Danielle is going on a school skiing trip to Austria next February and yesterday was one of the ski lessons organised by the school at Gloucester's dry-ski slope. The phone goes at just before 7pm….. "Danielle's had an incident…. nothing to worry about…. had a fall, bent fingers back, bruised and swollen, ice pack applied…. worth checking out at the hospital we think….".

Mrs K picked her up from school after their coach journey home and off to A&E. Three hours later, fingers strapped with her arm in a sling but the x-rays were inconclusive and, because she's under 16 it's an automatic referral to Bristol Children's Hospital.

With plenty of pain killers on board it was my turn to take her to the hospital this morning. Further x-rays confirmed that she had indeed fractured two fingers of her left hand, middle and ring. Luckily she's right handed but her fingers are now strapped to a splint and no physical activities allowed for 4 weeks. Oh my.

And I always thought après ski involved socialising, dancing, drinking etc. Youngsters these days!
