Oyster catcher

It was lovely at the mouth of the Riwaka River this morning. There were a selection of birds, the odd whitebaiter and glorious views to choose from. Some time was spent trying to take photo of the little swifts - they are well named. I finally captured one, but it wasn't close enough make a good photo.

I chose this oyster catcher for my Blip today. He and his lady had made a nest in a pile of what looked like sticks and straw. Mrs Oyster Catcher was sitting unmoving on the nest while her mate patrolled to make sure we didn't get too close and scolding when we did.
