25 years of freedom

We've been to Helmstedt (Lower Saxony) today, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. I've never seen so many people in this little town before.
Helmstedt was one of the main transit points between former East and West Germany. We lived (and still live) just 20 minutes away in the former East Germany. To think that we couldn't visit our relatives just behind the border for so many years is still unfathomable.

This Trabant ("Trabbi") is said to be one of the first cars that crossed the newly opened Iron Curtain towards the West on the 9th Nov. 1989.
