Green Pin Feathers

I thought this was a female Mallard when I shot it but on the computer screen I saw it was a young male. The green feathers on his head are just starting to sprout. I got this while there was still a bit of sun and blue sky in the east this morning. The sky in the northwest was black and obscuring the mountains and it was blowing toward us quickly. It was such a stark contrast but unfortunately impossible to capture. At about 9 a.m. the warm wind was blowing and the temperature was 71F (about 22C). By 10 a.m. it had dropped to 41F (5C). Crazy! Now at 7 p.m. it is 15F (about -9C). We've gotten about an inch of snow here and a lot of ice everywhere. It's dumping in the mountains! Great for the ski industry! The weather changes rapidly in Colorado but this is more than usual!
