Flag Raising

Today is Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day which remembers signing of the Armistice that ended WWI. It honors those who have died in wars. The Armistice was signed at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. This Flag Raising Ceremony is being conducted by an ROTC unit from a local high school.

Spectators here included many WWII veterans that live at The Fountains. Most of these men are in their nineties. All that could, stood at attention and saluted.

The end of WWI marked the end of the Caliphate of the Ottoman Empire, created new borders in the Middle East spawning resentments and hostilities which continue to this day.
