Doggie Faced Waspie

Flies and wasps are swarming all over my Paddy's Pride ivy outside the back door. The flowers are finished but the seed heads are still attractive to insects for some reason.

I got a few shots when the sun was out early in the day and returned to the wasps late when the light was poor and it was starting to rain. Nice to still be able to shoot using flash.

The wasps were a bit sluggish in comparison with high season but intent on feasting on the ivy. I believe mine is a Saxon wasp as it has dots on its face instead of the usual anchor mark. Makes it quite appealing I think.
