We Will Remember Them

Remembering today my Great Grandfather Fred Osborne who was mortally wounded at the Battle of Richebourg (Boars Head) on 30th June 1916 as part of the Royal Sussex Regiments' attack to divert German attention from the Battle of the Somme which began on 1 July. The attack was conducted by the 11th, 12th and 13th (Southdowns) Battalions of the Royal Sussex Regiment, and due to the terrible loss of life suffered is known as 'The Day Sussex Died'. My Great Grandfather died of his wounds 14 days later and is buried in St Omer War Cemetery in France. Bless him and all those incredible men and women who fought so bravely in the wars across the years for a better future for the families they did not yet know would exist.
