Robin Barclay - one a day

Hopetoun tower memorial

I have passed this umpteen times between Haddington and the East Lothian coast and never realized there was a trail up to it. I had thought it was a war memorial, on Byres Hill, but it is from about 100 years before WW1 and is a memorial to the Earl of Hopetoun, a local laird. There are steps inside and you can climb to the top (but take a torch - it is very dark).
