Bats and More Bats

We found a bat colony! There must have been around 1000 of them, and hell they were loud. The bats of Deniyaya move around when the monsoon hits, but seem to tend to stay along the river edge, where the abundant mango and banana trees undoubtedly keep their population strong.

Jack also saw a lone bat of immense proportions flying solo down the river, but it was definitely what he said it was. Potentially the flock-leader scoping out new territories...

Cycling further along the river we also had our first encounter with a water monitor. It was too cautious to get a decent photo of though, despite our best efforts!

We planned to leave the area but an hour before the bus out, had a chance encounter with Sena. Following Jack's sad discovery of a dead puppy on the roadside (and a long chat in which we convinced Sena not to spend his life savings on the first year of a pointless university degree for his son) we ended up going to stay at his house in Hatton.
