Miranda's Meanders

Safari Time!

We splashed out on an obligatory jeep ride for a morning in Uda Walawe NP.. It was amazing!

We saw loads of leopard tracks, birds of prey, hares, buffalo, giant squirrels, deer, had to manoever around land monitors that kept lazying around on the road and... got charged by a mother elephant! A cracking noise about a foot from Jack's face alerted us to her presence initially, and next thing we knew she was running along the road behind us in a mock-charge, with her baby in tow. Not bad for a first safari!

The road to Uda Walawe NP skirted a lake which we went to for some dusk bird watching.. Somehow we managed to catch one of the best sunsets either of us had ever seen.
