Noises from the SW Front

Organized Labor - sort of!

I've very mixed views on the philosophy and tactics of labor unions in developed societies. I understand life would be much different for most of us who work for our living today, if not for the pressure exerted by labor unions in years past. Still, most of the unions around today could use some help with their respective images, in order to regain a level of relevance and stave off obsolescence. Take this lot for example: One of the construction trades organizes this little road-show any time any business does any sort of construction work. The people under the umbrellas aren't unemployed members of the union though. They're day laborers, earning minimum wage for holding the sign up. If you stop to ask about the details of the dispute, the most common answer is: "No Habla Ingles!"
In this case, I assume it was one of the same, non-English speakers who designed the sign. The name of the firm whose choice of contractor they're protesting is Nordstrom- two R's!
