Phaleonopsis. Moth Orchid

We have grown Orchids for many years. Our favourites are Lady's Slipper orchids which grow well in the garden.

In winter you cannot beat Phalaenopsis grown indoors. Twenty five years ago you would have probably have had to pay £20 for one of these. But now the horticultural trade grows huge numbers and they can be bought for between £7 and £15 depending on size and rarity of colour and pattern.

They are native in China, India and South East Asia and are happy in light shade. In the home the flowers can last for two to three months. If before the last flower falls you cut the stem above a lower node it is probable that they will flower again.

Lightly spray the leaves two or three times each week if you keep them in a warm room. Dappled light is best.
