Edinburgh, sculpture and social mobility

A second day in Edinburgh, attending a session on the work of the Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission chaired by Alan Milburn.

The Commission highlights some progress amongst much bad news and has some startling facts to share.

In Scotland 10.9% of children live in workless households and a startling 32.2% of children in Glasgow live in a low income household.

Milburn himself warned we're in danger of becoming a permanently divided nation, with the gap between the haves and have nots growing ever wider. Throughout he had the sense of someone on an urgent and very clear mission. A mission to make people listen.

Before the event, I managed to stop by the National Gallery. Another free-entry museum which welcomes people like me, looking to kill 15mins without buying 'stuff'. Blip refers.
