Hobbs's Run

The Hydro #1

We are all very pleased that the once magnificent old Hydro Majestic, Medlow Bath has at last re-opened and is no longer a derelict ruin. It is a grand hotel once more. There are various reports as to how much has been spent on the place but most published figures are well north of $30 million - with a good deal more to come. For those that know the area, the sight of the old place glistening proudly in the sun does gladden the heart.

I have made up my mind to return here every week and progressively document the place - especially as more and more of the property's spaces are opened up to public gawking and more of the facilities opened for business. I shall be on hand to blip what I can. I think you'll find it interesting. Look forward to the meticulous restoration of a quaint Edwardian resort, faithful to the year it opened and complete with all the chandeliers, stained glass windows, ornate soaring ceilings, custom made carpet, grand dining rooms, original art and expansive viewing areas.

Right here I am standing outside the new pavilion which at times will be devoted to exhibitions, conventions, banquets and special events. Like all parts of the hotel no attempt has been made to concoct a period that is not consistent with the original era of construction. Edwardian places are Edwardian, art deco places are art deco and facilities built in 2014 look like they were.

Of interest is the fact that many "temporary" buildings and much unruly scrub have been removed to reveal the Megalong vistas which inspired the original site development. Watch this space.
