Leaving

The last rays of sun cast a rosy glow to the 3,718 metre (12,198 ft) high volcanic peak of Teide which has lain dormant since 1909. Below is the high mountain ridge along which we walked on Wednesday but had been unable to see the impressive landscape and the 600 m high cliffs due to the fog so it was good to look down on it from the plane. We left an island renowned for its warm winter sunshine but although we were reminded of ‘typical Scottish weather’ on three days we enjoyed a first and last day of warm sun. It had been an interesting holiday walking in the varied terrain but a week was long enough.
