Rescue At Sea

Great excitement this morning. Just after 7:00 a.m., we passed a very small Mexican fishing boat. The three men aboard were waving, and at first we all assumed they were just saying "hello" but then the waving became more frantic, and the captain realized they were asking for help.

Their battery had died, and they had been adrift since yesterday morning. They had no oars, or water or food! Our ship launched a tender, and they assisted the fishing boat to make fast to our ship while a new battery was found. We also gave them bottles of water, sandwiches, cigarettes, and fuel. Once the battery was hooked up, and their engine was started, they waved farewell, and headed back to shore. We were 35 miles out to sea when we came across these lucky men.
