Dermatology today.
Appointment letter said be prepared to be there for 2 hours. What could possibly keep us there for 2 hours? I thought. What the letter should also say is, be prepared to take a lot home with you.
The nurse who saw Dexter, the eczema specialist apparently, decided that the treatment he was currently getting for his eczema was completely inadequate and we needed to go nuclear. Cue 6 new creams and ointments, a bag full of bandages and some snazzy vests and tights that make Dexter look like a fencer. I was glad I took the buggy rather than the sling. Made taking 3 full carrier bags home a lot easier.
The appointment was absolutely exhausting though. After initially seeing the nurse and being given a lot of information in a very short amount of time, we went upstairs to the day clinic to get his dressings done so I can see how it's done. Dexter was not impressed. Screamed and shouted. I hope that's not how he'll be every night...
I have very clear memories of my brother having the exact same routine at night for his eczema when he was a boy. Even the smell of the creams and bandages takes me back. I'll have to ask him what memories he has of it. Is he mentally scarred by it all?

Anyway, I've been absolutely exhausted ever since. Mentally drained but pleased that we're tackling it properly. Also very proud of my wee boy for having coped so well so far with what must be incredibly uncomfortable.
