The road and the miles to Dundee

A visit to Dundee today for some soup and crusty bread with two of my old flatmates from college days. This is Peter.

Peter arrive in Dundee in 1970 and liked it that much he stayed after graduating and over the years since then contributed greatly to the work and cultural life of the city and for this contribution he was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws in 2003 by Dundee University. For Peter to be there to receive the award was something of a minor miracle because in November 2002 he had suffered a massive stroke which left him paralysed down the left side of his body. As usual Peter tackled this with his particular blend of self belief and determination and can now walk again, albeit very slowly and with the help of a walking stick.

Fortunately the stroke did not rob him of his ability to communicate or his penchant for dark humour. When asked about the number of pills he had to take every day he replied that he would quite like to cut back on them if possible but unfortunately he didn't know which ones were keeping him alive.

Nothing has changed in that respect since we met in 1970 I suppose.
