The Fountain

I've never ever seen any water coming out of this fountain. It sits in a local park amid well kept gardens and the local war memorial, but, never any water. Went to have a look at it for the first time in years, certainly as an adult, and it does have some incredible features. Take these creatures here, clumsy paint job, but there is something that is incredibly strange going on there. Are they angels, are the mermaids, why have they got two tails. All very strange. I really must try and find this out.

If the fountain wasn't gushing then the metaphorical fountains of knowledge were. I am constantly amazed at the stuff people know and how bizarre it is. We were discussing how some religious group were demanding that the killer whale involved in the death of it's trainer be stoned to death. We discussed over coffee the relevance of a biblical passage that was perhaps pragmatic in the husbandry of cattle in 3000 BC Palestine to the dealing of a captured cetacean. We also discussed practicalities of stoning a whale to death when one of my colleagues informed us of the correct technique for executing a dolphin, and had in fact witnessed this at close quarters.

You don't have much to add to a statement like that. For the record it was an incredibly sad tale involving a stranded and dying white beaked dolphin.


I was also informed of the fatal inadequacies of 1980's British Army body armour by someone that had been seen the event at close quarters. Again not for the squeamish. You never know what the fountain of human knowledge will throw up at you or who in fact will tell your these weird and wonderful things.

I'm hoping for a soup recipe tomorrow.
