Safe #Water in #Bangladesh

Providing safe water and sanitation for the communities we work with in Africa and Asia is a key IMPACT priority.

The World Health Organisation has called the arsenic contamination of drinking water in Bangladesh, 'The single worst case of mass poisoning in human history'.

IMPACT Bangladesh estimates that around 40 per cent of people are suffering from arsenic related diseases in the areas in which we work.

In this photograph a woman in rural Bangladesh is using an arsenic-free tube well which has been installed near her home.

Existing tube-wells are tested for arsenic and painted green if they are safe and red if they are contaminated with arsenic water.

As well as marking tube-wells to let local communities whether the water is safe, IMPACT Bangladesh are also providing families with SONO filters so they can remove harmful arsenic from their drinking water. We distribute SONO filters through our network of mothers club in Chuadanga to protect families from poisoning.
