Pictorial blethers

Salvaged

Today was one of controlled destruction in our small back garden - destruction of a huge rhododendron bush that grows with hideous exuberance because of its propinquity to the bottomless compost bin which never actually yields any compost but clearly feeds the monster which surrounds it. If desperately interested, you can make out the decidedly sculptural remains of the massive branches to the right of the photo.

However, in the midst of this exhausting activity, I happened to notice these lovely leaves hanging precariously on the weigela beside the path and thought they deserved a night of being admired before they fell. So here they are, paired with a small branch of the berberis which you can see in all its golden glory outside the window.

Incidentally, I dislike the berberis all year until now - nasty, spiky, fast-growing thing - but in the autumn it's wonderful. And it's late because of vicious pruning in late Spring.

Nothing changes ...
