The Two Lancaster's

Well so many shots today to choose from. But it had to be 'Vera' and 'Thumper' together.

I learned earlier in the week that the two Lancs would be doing a flypast at Strubby Airfield as the new memorial was being dedicated. Well its so close to home it was a must to visit. They were expecting a little of two thousand b people with a few flying in for the occasion. How wrong were the planners? I believe there were over 22,000 people on the day. This photograph was taken as we queued for a burger, luckily the two aircraft flew directly over us other wise we would have missed them. I'd already missed the "poppy drop", the plane did loads of flypasts but the lever to drop the poppies stuck so they got almost dumped unceremoniously over a field too far away to get any shot at all. We were all really surprised though because it had never been advertised, we were treated to an amazing flypast by the red arrows.

A day like we will never experience again. There is something about these old planes. I just love them. More pics can be found on my Flickr account
