Last night, before calling it a day, I put the re-cycling out ready for the early pick up. With re-cycling, there's no worries about critters having a party in there like it is with garbage.

I pushed the switch to close the garage door and there was one almighty crack.

The cables down one side had come out of their track and had wrapped themselves around the tension bar that spans the door opening at the top. Too late for any attempt to fix it, and dangerous as those sprung tension bars are at the best of times, discretion was the better part of valour so me and the lad unhooked the wires and let the door down gently to close it for the night.

Today, when the guy came to fix it, he announced that to fix it was going to cost about the same as replacing the entire tension bar. His face relaxed noticeably when I said that there really is no decision to make, just replace it and be done with it so it doesn't happen again. A new installation is better than pratting around trying to fix something. obviously.

So he'll be back in the morning and I'll be several hundred dollars poorer.
What's that phrase about raining and pouring?

Ah well. Until tomorrow....
