Risso Dolphin.

This is a very rare dolphin for us to see, even though it lives in the Pacific region.
This one was rescued by SeaWorld from a beach at Fingal Head, NSW.

It is very under nourished, and kept turning over to one side. So to stop it from drowning, two team members have had to stay with it 24 hours a day to keep it afloat.

It has been with us for about 3 weeks, and is now managing to stay afloat on its own, but there is still someone with it all the time.

The scarring on it's body maybe from other Risso Dolphins, but they also eat a lot of squid, so this could be from bites and their tentacles.

Sad news today. A family I know have just lost a second child to cancer. They lost their little boy just before his 7th birthday in January 2010, to a rare thyroid cancer and now they have lost their eldest daughter aged 18 to ovarian cancer. Their fear for their two remaining daughters must be over-whelming. Life isn't fair, and sometimes it seems more unfair to some than others,
