Shapeshifting

A bit hyper today in anticipation of this evening's entertainment so couldn't really think much about work stuff...... I left early to get back for J&K's 'meet the teacher' which was a bit of a waste of time actually.

Jules and I then headed into town for a spot of dinner at Jamie's before going across the road to see Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters where we met up with David and Hayley and Alf. As a rule, I struggle with going to see old bands that have reformed.... its usually more about the cash for them as they trot out their hits....invariably, you won't get to see them as they were and its a bit like stamp collecting or something...so you can say you've seen The Who or The Stones or whoever. Robert Plant doesn't fit into this category of selling nostalgia. He has a bunch of very talented musicians with him producing new material, albeit often reworkings of old, old songs - the result is a hypnotic mix of sounds and rhythms using traditional and modern instruments. There were a few Led Zep songs in there but they weren't trying to replicate the original in fact quite the opposite - a beautiful rendition of Going To California was one of my favourites but it was Little Maggie I really wanted to hear..... the beat, the banjo, the riti was just mesmerising. He's a very charismatic chap.....
