CannyScot's Day

By CannyScot

A View from the Conference

Dull morning giving way to sunshine in the afternoon.

Along with about 30 other Panel Members I attended a Training Day in the Apex Hotel, Dundee. As Members we are committed to ongoing development of our skills, though it certainly is time costly, especially for those who work full time, to give up a whole Saturday.

Our themes for the day were twofold. Firstly, issues around Contact between Children and family members, something which can lead to conflicting ideas of rights and responsibilities. Secondly, issues around Permanence, when decisions are made for the child to placed permanently in care, again something which can cause much conflict.

The hotel is situated right on the inner basin of the Harbour, and during a brief lunch break, I managed to catch this view with my phone. The water was absolutely flat calm and the reflections were clear.

Although tired, it was a very useful day and I feel more confident to make the kind of decisions covered by the Course.

On a lighter note, I was home in time to catch Manchester United win their first away League match of the season, beating Arsenal 2-1.
