Wingspan

We took our grandsons to Wingspan in Rotorua today . It is a sanctuary for our native birds of prey, ie Owls, Falcons, Hawks, and Morepork where there is a rigorous breeding programme being carried out in an attempt to preserve these wonderful birds and increase their numbers.
We enjoyed seeing all the birds in the aviary, as we were the only people there, so we were able to have great interaction with the birds, but the highlight was definitely the flying display of three Falcons. They were incredible, displaying their fantastic eyesight and sense of smell by their amazing, high speed flying and diving to receive meat rewards from the Falconers.
What a great experience for our two young lads which they really enjoyed.
I took several photos but found it extremely difficult to photograph them when they were flying at such high speed in bright light.... I may have one or two good shots, but havn't been through them all properly yet as we had my sister and brother-in-law for tea...Thanks for the lovely Tarawera, Orange muffins. Megl.
