David Toulmin in his short story “The Last Journey” provides a first class account of the boom and bust of the Buchan rail lines. He writes “At the height of the herring season upwards of 21 fish trains left Fraserburgh daily ... but by 1928 the engines on the Buchan line were having an easier time.”
