Lunch buddies

Out to lunch with Amol. Shilpa and Rahul. They said we're going for the fast menu. OK says I thinking of the upcoming meeting, and let them order. Meal turns up - Tapioca and potato with a bowl of yoghourt. Whats this called? Kidgeree - we're fasting, we told you.

Now hold on, in my book Kedgeree is a dish of Indian origin involving smoked fish and rice ..... and fasting involves not eating at all.

Don't ask me ....this is India. Searched on Kedgeree and then Tapioca and eventually found one reference from thousands that didn't mention the relevant info - "It is commonly used as a food during fasting (popularly called khichadi) among Hindus in Western and central part of India (Gujarat & Maharashtra region)."

Tapioca or Cassavah by its african name seems to crop up on all my foreign excursions, and from foo foo in Sierra Leone to Tapioca chips in Borneo it is always better then the creamed stuff we used to get for school dinner.

Shilpa had a half day so we went three up back to the office, now I know it is illegal, as Rahul said he'd jump off the back if we saw any police, and if the worse came to the worse 100/- would get us through. As it was Rahul jumped off before the office as he reckoned Amul's career would be ruined if one of the bosses saw him tempting me into illegality!
