Picking Cotton

Freshly picked cotton is being dumped in to a bailing machine. 21,000 pound bales will be about the size of a semi trailer as shown on the left. Dumping is done from a transport trailer that hauls cotton from a 6 row Cotton Picker.

Cotton was formerly picked by hand. A six row machine replaces 240 hand pickers.

We are in Pima County, Arizona where Pima Cotton was developed. It is a variety of the long fibre Egyptian Cotton.
