Life as it happens

Baldwin Street, Dunedin, New Zealand.

Baldwin Street is considered to be the steepest residential street in the world. The upper part of the street has a gradient of 1:2.86! It was a slow climb for us as pedestrians and for the other people drawn to see this 'world record breaker'. After some debate, I drove up and down it in our hire car with Louise as front seat passenger. It was a bit nerve-racking, especially when I realised that second gear was not good enough and had to change down to first half-way up!!
