Movement

As the weather's a bit blah, Christina has been practising her horological skills by working on a friend's comtoise - the French word for a longcase clock. We have several of our own spread through the house and I'm accustomed to the sound of them striking the hour. In fact they strike twice on the hour, with a space of about a minute in between, so if you wake in the night and only partially hear a clock striking, wait for a moment and it will do a repeat. Clever, huh?

These comtoise are well over 100 years old but were made with excellent movements. Christina is able to bring them back to life and, with a little oil and some loving care, they should endure for another century.
