University and community

I spoke at an event fairly recently about the extent to which universities are involved as active partners in their communities. My day today was a classic example of this.

I started the day at North East Scotland College, for a meeting on skills held by Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce. A really interesting session, showcasing how work based learning is being used by employers to help individuals to gain skills.

The day ended at a dinner hosted by the Scottish Council for Development and Industry. The guest speaker was Dr Heather Reid OBE, formerly "Heather the Weather" on BBC Scotland. A fascinating and entertaining speaker who is a great ambassador for science.

Both events provided opportunities to speak with colleagues and to discuss how we can work more effectively together to make education and learning more useful.

P.S. sorry for the rubbish photo - I must try harder to secure a good shot each day.
