St. Spiridon Cathedral

This is a Russian Orthodox cathedral complete with traditional onion-shaped domes and golden Orthodox crosses. It's first service held here was September 18, 1895. At this time about half of the congregation of 100 were born in America. . This one was founded jointly by 19th century Greek, Russian and Serb immigrants to Seattle. In 1918 the Greeks of Seattle formed a separate congregation. In 1923 St. Spiridons helped settle refuges fleeing from the Bolshevik Revolution who came through Seattle. Traditionally a fall bazaar is held here serving snacks of piroshkys and borscht soup. When our son was little we came here each year to sample the foods and enjoy the crafts. It was just too much for the gander one time and he ended up ''losing all his cookies" and I think we never returned. So today I went back just for a blip:)
