I’ve come across a couple of curious cases of unexpected expertise. My brother-in-law once made enquiries about an important but esoteric piece of information relating to his work; having made a chain of phone calls to various experts around the world some-one, who obviously hadn’t picked up either his name or his place of work, told him confidently that, "the person you need to talk to is Mr. So-and-so of Such-and-such company"; it was, of course, B-i-L. Again, a bee-keeping acquaintance in more modern times wanted to find out about a similarly esoteric aspect of bees’ wax usage though his search was more successful. Having emailed various experts around the world he was directed to the man to whom he really needed to talk; so, after phoning up the gentleman in question, he walked around to see him.
