Aberdour Castle

I am so glad that this is the last day of my black and white challenge. Unlike many blippers I don’t like mono especially when I think colour shows more detail and interest. The huge blocks of fallen masonry at Aberdour Castle show up much better on my colour photos than on this.

Aberdour Castle is believed to be one of the two oldest datable castles still standing in Scotland and was built before 1200 and then extended later until it was abandoned in 1725 as a residence. The old towerhouse had been gutted by fire some years before but the huge blocks (seen in large) collapsed in 1844 and even more fell in 1919. The walls appear to be over six metres thick so must have made a loud noise as they fell.
