The boy and the chandelier

An early morning jaunt around a rather splendid old house to allow me to get some photos for work. More chandeliers than you can shake a stick at. Then off with the kids for a tour of of Mary Kings Close which is a perfectly preserved area of the old town underneath the Royal Mile which was built over after the Bubonic Plague had done its worst. There were a few spooky moments when I though the kids were going to get scared but on the whole they loved the lengthy descriptions of the sewage issues of the middle ages and vivid depictions of the lancing of boils of poor plague victims. There's one street in particular that is more or less completely intact and it's fascinating stuff. Well worth a visit.

Three tired out kids now crashed out on the sofa, getting a second wind before the pals turn up for a sleep over.
