But, then again . . . . .

Larch Cones.

"Number one - the larch." So ran a sketch on the comedy programme, "Monty Python's Flying Circus;" this particular episode was first broadcast on BBC Television, probably on the 19th October 1969. Many Britons of a "certain age" will remember it, but I would imagine that far fewer will remember that there was also a tree identification chart (probably published by a fore-runner of "The Woodland Trust), available at the time for identifying trees from a distance, which also bore those words. These two events appear to be connected as much of the wording of the few short sentences from each source is identical. I'm afraid that I can't verify much of this information so would be interested if there is anyone out there who can confirm, or refute it as my memory is rather suspect these days.

p.s. I didn’t like the programme myself. though the same team did produce a few good films one of which, "The Meaning of Life," included the wonderful “Galaxy Song” which has to be regularly updated to remain in line with current scientific data.

The blip was taken while walking Merlin just before going to visit a friend who is recovering from a hip replacement. She's doing very well.
