Holy Visititation

The sacred kingfisher, Todiramphus sanctus. A crappy shot, I know, but it was taken at an angle through old, imperfect glass. I saw it from my kitchen window and there was no way I could creep up on it outside. It was sitting on the top rail of my bean fence, and as I watched it dived out of sight into the asparagus bed. There will be one less lizard, I suspect. Anyway, I was pretty excited to see such a rare visitor.

The sacred kingfisher is native to New Zealand, but it can also be found in Australia and Southeast Pacific islands up to Indonesia.
