Godley Head Gun Emplacement

Godley Head - This headland is a breathtaking coastal location, with sheer 120 metre-high cliffs towering above the Pacific Ocean.

Built in 1939, the Godley Head WWII coastal defence battery is ranked in the top ten New Zealand coastal defence heritage sites. Christchurch was well defended - maybe overseas blippers wouldn't realise the need we had for New Zealand to be defended during World War II. There was a definite threat to our shores from more than one source and submarines were seen prowling the waters.

I loved today and this walk around a very special part of New Zealand, with a friend who's becoming a very special part of my life.
