The World of Katcal

By Katcal

Got up at 5am to do the Tongariro Crossing, it was very cold!

When we were picked up we were told the crossing was shut due to 85kph winds at the top and snow at the bottom!

We ended up walking from the visitor centre in the Tongariro National Park instead, to Tama Lakes via Taranaki Falls, a 6hr return walk in the mist, wind and rain! Not a fun walk, it was like walking in the Peak District at Kinder on a miserable day!

Eventually we were picked up, wet through and cold ready for a long drive to our camp, only for the bus to break down!

We ended up spending 3hrs in the Chateau (at least it was warm and they had beer and soup!) before heading to Paekakari for fish and chips near the beach and a warm lodge!
