Into the sea ...

For two weeks each March and another two weeks in September, the sun sets into the sea off Dunmanus Bay. A neighbor farmer has lived here all his life and has never seen the sun set into the bay because of weather or clouds on the horizon. For nearly thirteen years, I have been privileged to this spectacle but a couple of times.

At the winter solstice, the sun sets at the left edge of this blip. And for the summer solstice it sets to the right, off the blip. So, it is no wonder that ancient peoples set up standing stones and stone circles to mark this progression and serve as a calendar for the seasons and life's activities.
