Rita and Yvonne

This is Rita (on the left) and Yvonne (on the right) in front of their allotment hut. I have known Rita for some time. In the seventies she was the manager of Netherley CAB. At the time it broke the mould of CABx: it was based in a council flat and its volunteers were mainly local tenants. Their local housing conditions were appalling. In 1979 Rita became the manager of Liverpool's Womens' Aid Refuge. It had only been in existence for a short time and was the second womens' refuge to be opened in the country. Rita worked there for 14 years. Later we were to sit on a board of a Housing Association together and share a connection with a CAB for which Rita still volunteers. She remains active in a whole number of ways. She is now 82 years of age, although she is the only person who believes this.
