Inside 'The Grand'

In its heyday, sadly long gone, ‘The Grand ‘ in Scarborough was once the largest and grandest hotel in the whole of Europe. Designed by Hull architect Cuthbert Brodrick, it was built in 1867 to a ‘V’ shape to honour Queen Victoria. It has twelve floors, to represent the months of the year, four entrances , to represent the four seasons, and three hundred and sixty-five rooms to represent the days of the year. The huge structure of ‘The Grand’ still dominates Scarborough, but I thought I’d let you have an interior view. The staircase, centre shot, was built wide enough to accommodate two Victorian ladies in their voluminous crinolines, plus their partners, all side by side on the steps, and along with the large ballrooms and its amazing views over the South Bay, ‘The Grand’ still remains very impressive.
