Albacore

With bad weather coming (lots of wind) we decided last night to head back down the coast to Auckland. So up early, of to Kerikeri to drop Hil and Hannah off so they could drive the car back down, and then Adam, I, Phil and Jacque headed south.

Noon at Cape Brett and beautiful conditions, and then out in flat calm conditions towards the Poor Knights. En route, 5 albacore that Adam was very excited about (he caught this one). Made his day. Then 4pm at the Poor Knights, a fantastic offshore marine reserve. It's been years since I?ve been there, and I was amazed. Fabulous visibility for snorkelling and simply stunning fish life. Dozens of huge snapper milling around, kingfish, trevally, maomou, you name it. Easily the best snorkelling I have had in years.

Then at 5pm we headed south, several hours later the wind came up, as expected, and blew until we arrived in Kawau at 2am. Tired, but great to be most of the way down. Fabulous day. Bed.
