A Meandering Life...

Winter Colour

Berberis darwinii or Darwin's barberry.

This is about the only colour I have in my front garden at the moment. I planted this bush a couple of years ago after it had sat in a pot for quite a few years being neglected.

Although it likes full sun or partial shade I stuck it between a fence and an over grown Yucca filamentosa. It has now started to establish itself.

What I like most about this bush is the tiny holly like leaves and the mini bell flowers that shine out and look like daffodils when open.

Charles Darwin found it in South America during his 1835 Beagle voyage and as he lived about 10 minutes drive from here quite an apt location to have one.
