Will She, Won’t She?

I went up to Porters Pass to check on the coral broom, Carmichaelia crassicaulis. Last summer I went up late January and the branches were covered in dead blooms. I was so disappointed to miss them. But today there is not a hint of possible flowering. Does this mean it won’t? Or do the flowers develop in a rush? Looks like I’ll have to go again.

The coral broom is endemic to New Zealand. It doesn’t seem to have leaves.

More photos here, including a fine grasshopper.
