Laughing Lion

Time for a quick dash round the shops between the Morning Job and Job No.2 - a few more Christmas presents bought and ready to wrap.

To Job No. 2 the long way round, for a sea view, passing 'The Lions' en route. Apparently JS Lowry considered buying this house in 1947, before discovering that it suffered horribly from damp.

The stone lions on the gate posts look rather too friendly - laughing rather than roaring! Mr M and I suppose that they were carved in the early 19th century, when the house was built, by someone who didn't know much about lions! There are several stone lions similar to this one around Berwick and the Borders.

'Twas a glorious clear, crisp winter's day, but there was patchy, thick fog this evening - not a pleasant drive home.
